240x55 Tuxedo Feather

$1,500.00

This is a pattern welded gyuto, the steels used are 1095/15n20. The pattern used for this knife is an angel hair feather pattern. The feather is very fine and extremely subtle but beautiful. The end result is this organic and beautiful pattern that flows quite elegantly down the blade.

This knife has a compound S-grind, which is a hollow along the middle of the blade which aids with food release. Previously, I used a platen that replicated the angle of a 48” wheel for this. As of lately, I have started using a platen that replicates a 36” wheel, I find the slightly deeper hollow creates a more acute apex.

The ferrule of this knife is made of Ancient Bog Oak with the main block of wood from the same block. The spacer of the handle is fossil mammoth tusk ivory. This piece of ivory is the outer most piece of the tusk which is considered bark. You can see the cross hatching center grain of the mammoth and the outer bark toward the front of the handle. There is a small crack in the mammoth ivory that I was not able to completely remove, such is the nature of several thousand year old ivory. I have sealed it with cryanoacrylate which will stop it from growing in the future.  Together, these materials flow wonderfully together and compliment the pattern of the steel.
