230x51 52100 Curly Pear
230x51 52100 Curly Pear
This knife was made from 52100 ball bearing steel. This steel takes a very fine grained edge and has nice retention. This steel has been heat treated to 63/64HRC. One notable quality of 52100 is its relative toughness when compared to other carbon steels at comparable a hardness. This knife has a full convex grind which is done on a rotary platen. The handle of this knife is African Blackwood and curly pear from Missouri. This knife has a forced patina which creates a nice base layer patina. I have also tempered the tangs back and left the temper colors at the ricasso.
